5 Essential Bags Every Girl Should Own

I’m a purse lover. There’s nothing that will catch my eye like a new, clean, crisp leather or fabric handbag. Whether it has handles, straps, no straps, it doesn’t matter. You simply can’t deny the beauty of that perfectly designed bag that calls your name. While some girls may fill their closets with handbags of all shapes and sizes, all you really need is 5 basic styles to get you through from day to night.
The ‘Handbag’ (aka ‘satchel’): There’s a reason we call it a ‘handbag’. It’s handles are short and meant to be held in your hands, not over your shoulder. This classic style is very lady-like, perfect for work or when you want to look put together instantly. Since they come in the small to medium size range, they’re still comfortable and practical enough to hold all you need and more. I’m typically not a fan of large handbags that come with extra, detachable, often thin shoulder straps mainly because most times they aren’t in proportion to the bag. Find a bag that meets your needs and you’ll get more use out of it.

The ‘Shoulder bag’ (aka ‘Hobo’): My favourite style of all. This one is comfortable, large enough to hold everything you might need making it that perfect everyday bag. It’s one that’s great for work and it’s popularity means you’ll find them virtually everywhere. The only problem is deciding which colour and material you like best!

The ‘Crossbody’: Perfect informal bag when you’re on the go, don’t want to fuss and perfectly sized to carry only your bare essentials. It’s a casual look that works well on weekends, when you’re out walking the dog, grabbing lunch with friends and running around town doing errands. It’s a great way to put a pop of colour into your outfit, or stick to neutral tones & quality materials which will last for years to come.

The ‘Tote’: A larger bag that offers ample room to carry whatever you might need. Typically simple in design, it works well as a weekend bag and can easily double as a shopping bag or even a beach tote.

The ‘Clutch’: Whether you attend a fancy event once a year or once a week, having a great clutch is a lifesaver when you’re looking for something more formal to dress up your outfit. If you only want one or two to keep in your closet, be sure to choose something with a classic shape and style that will complement any outfit. If you’re daring, choose something bold and it instantly becomes a statement piece.
